Hashknife Pony Express
I had the opportunity to photograph the Hashknife Pony Express for both the 64th and 65th Annual Ride alongside a few fellow photographers from Northern Arizona University.
The Hashknife Pony Express is a volunteer organization that honors the history of the old west. Beginning in Holbrook, Arizona, the horseback mail route covers over 200 miles from the Mogollon Rim through the wilderness of the Mazatzal range to the desert city of Scottsdale, Arizona. The riders are officially sworn in by the United States Post Office to transport mail on horseback. Many of the riders are retired sheriff deputies or police officers and the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office assists with closing off the highway for the event.
